STORY
(OF THE
MAKING)
First Ave.’s most ambitious film yet The Art of Death depicts a self-obsessed hitman who finds himself betrayed (or at least he sees it that way). The idea for this spawned in November of 2023 and has been slowly in development ever since. We produced and released Captain America: The Last Avenger while working on this project. Realistically, this should not have taken so long, but with Sky and I on two different schedules (and me up at UCSB), progress was slow. I covered the large setups, including the party, boss scene, and beach, while shooting the rest in my absence.
We found great cinematic strength in this film, with Sky and I both doing some of our best work to date. I’m probably most satisfied with the beach though there are some shots in the party (found in my reel :)) that I’m obsessed with.
Sound has been the main critique Sky, and I have heard. Its something will be sure to improve on our next project. We ought to dedicate a person to the task.
We were inspired by David Fincher’s Killer, Albert Camus’ The Stranger, and the music of Elysian Fields. I think these elements blended together quite well to make something unique and distinct—while not perfect, it is our own.
