Written and filmed in the summer of 2025, this was the first narrative project that Sky Deuel and I worked on since we both left high school. We wanted to test ourselves to see, in the time we’ve been apart, how much we could do. It is personal and imperfect; a vehicle for many lessons. In the end, I don’t think we showed all that we could have, but it set the bar higher for how we work.
Koda was in the edit tank for a long time. Having left Sky in San Diego with a mass of footage, I could only send late, sporadic notes when requested. It wasn’t until May 2026 that it was released. By then, we were approaching nearly a year on from filming; something certainly not anticipated. But, watching the film, the memories came back all the more vividly. The arc had changed from our first script drafted in coffee shops up and down Park Avenue. But what’s released is the best version of a film, which to me is the memory of a few good weeks in summer; remembering good friendships, held and lost; and some thoughts on love and passion, still being worked out.
Maybe I’ll write something up one day, but I think it is best left for the movies.
